White and thin-walled, Acoma pottery is painted in delicate "optical illusion" line designs and plant and animal figures. The designs reach back in time to the ancient Mimbres culture. The Acoma are among the most productive Pueblo potters. The location of deposits of white clay are carefully guarded.

Lizard Seed Pot

$255.00

Sharon and Bernard Lewis work together to create fine pieces which, while reflecting much that is traditional in Acoma pottery, incorporate contemporary designs and shapes. A clever invention, seed pots are storage vessels with a hole in the top large enough for seeds to go into, but small enough to keep marauding rodents out. Here, Sharon and Bernard's version of a seed pot adds another hole, moves both holes from the top to an edge and winds the tail of a basking lizard through both. This white ware piece is further decorated with black fineline designs. 3" W x 2" H. Signed.
