The Athapascans, common ancestors of the Navajo and the Apache, reached the Southwest shortly after 1000 A. D. as nomadic bands of hunters and gatherers. Navajo Dolls

$14.00

Navajo dollmaking is a cottage industry. As often happens in native cultures struggling to exist in the modern world, each member of a Navajo family must contribute to its support. These cloth-bodied dolls are made by the women of a family. Grandmothers, mothers, aunts and daughters pass on the skill of hand-making dolls dressed in traditional costumes--each one a unique creation.
